Batch Approach
Back-end systems tend to be large- such as Oracle-based, SAP, and so on. In addition, most SME or corporate businesses have substantial Information Technology departments that are responsible for these back-end systems.
Generally integrating with these back-end systems involves extracting data from one system i.e. the back-end system, and importing into ContactTracker or vice-versa. Various components, called "Connectors" are configured or created to facilitate this data transfer. See figure 1, below for more detail.
In this diagram, information is extracted from the hosted ContactTracker system - such as sales data, service data and so forth - is bundled up into a convenient format, and is then sent to head office using a standard data transfer protocol, such as FTP.
Similarly, data is extracted from the back-office system, bundled into a convenient format and sent to the ContactTracker web server, where another connector updates the ContactTracker database.
In this model, the data is usually batched into overnight (or weekly, monthly, yearly) jobs.
Technically, this is the easiest model to implement. It requires the least effort from business's IT departments, and builds on technology and expertise that the business currently has.
